King, Crown Prince pay tribute to martyrs’ sacrifices on state centennial anniversary

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, accompanied by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, on Sunday visited the Martyr’s Memorial, in remembrance of martyrs’ sacrifices to the nation as it marks its centennial.

The first government in Jordan was sworn in on  April 11, 1921, marking the establishment of Transjordan under the leadership of Emir Abdullah I at the time, which became the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan after declaring independence in 1946.

Upon arrival at the venue, King Abdullah was welcomed by a 21-gun salute and was received by senior officials and officers.

His Majesty laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and recited verses from the Holy Koran.

The King also bestowed the Order of the State Centennial on the nation’s martyrs, in appreciation of their sacrifices, according to a Royal Court statement.
