AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah spoke to CNN’s Fareed Zakaria in a wide-ranging interview that was conducted in Washington, DC, and aired on Sunday.
In the interview, the King spoke about his recently concluded US visit, his vision on regional matters especially the Palestinian cause, prominent national issues, and Jordan’s steadfastness amidst challenges.
The King said, prior to his meeting as the first leader from the region with US President Joe Biden, he held talks with Palestinian and Israeli leaders aiming to "unify messaging" as part of efforts to bring the two sides back to the negotiation table.
"... I came out of those meetings feeling very encouraged, and I think we have seen in the past couple of weeks, not only a better understanding between Israel and Jordan, but the voices coming out of both Israel and Palestine that we need to move forward and reset that relationship," the King said.
The King said that his priority, in line with the Hashemite legacy, is to make Jerusalem a "city of hope, a city of peace, and bringing people together, and hopefully that reflects to other policies as we deal with challenges around the Middle East." (See full text)
