AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday asked the relevant officials to follow the proper legal mechanism so that those who were misled or made mistakes and followed the sedition attempt, can return to their families soon.

King Abdullah’s remarks came during a meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace, attended HRH Crown Prince Hussein, in response to a request from a number of figures from the governorates, who submitted a petition asking that His Majesty forgive their sons who were led into the sedition case, in line with the Hashemite heritage of tolerance and forgiveness, according to a Royal Court statement.

In response, His Majesty said: “As a father and a brother to all Jordanians, and in this holy month of tolerance and solidarity, when we all wish to be with our families, I ask the relevant officials to look into the proper mechanism to have those who were misled into following the sedition, return to their families soon.”

Discussing the sedition case, His Majesty said that “what took place was painful, not because there was an imminent threat to the country, since the sedition, as I have said has been stopped, but if it had not been stopped at the onset, it could have taken the country in a difficult direction, God forbid.”

Noting his decision to deal with this issue calmly, the King said that the miscalculation by some and their fall for the sedition without heeding consequences will not affect Jordan, adding, “our country is strong” and expressing faith in state institutions.

“My duty, goal, and the pledge I have made is to serve and protect our people and country, and this is the standard that defines how we deal with everything,” His Majesty continued.

The King also spoke about the need to enhance the performance of institutions, in service of Jordanians and their aspirations, stressing the importance of overcoming the challenge of COVID-19 towards a safe summer, when Jordan can reopen sectors to mitigate the pressure on the public.

His Majesty noted ongoing efforts to secure vaccines and the possibility of prioritising certain segments such as teachers, to enable a safe return to schools and universities.

The attendees stressed their unity behind the King’s leadership in continuing the process of development and achievement in state institutions, as Jordan embarks on its second centennial, stressing that the Kingdom has been able to overcome all challenges.

They said Jordanians are committed to their Hashemite leadership and to the Constitution, noting their dedication to safeguarding Jordan and countering all attempts to undermine its stability and security.

They said His Majesty is a symbol that all Jordanians share, expressing unity in following his lead.

Discussions also covered a number of domestic concerns, and the importance of moving forward in political, economic, and administrative development.
