AMMAN — The Jordanian parliamentary delegation, headed by Lower House Speaker Ahmad Safadi, concluded its official visit to Baghdad on Friday, in a meeting with former Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdel Mahdi, among other Iraqi officials, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The delegation, in the presence of the Jordanian Ambassador Montaser Al Zoubi, held 20 meetings with Iraqi officials, leaders and representatives of the Iraqi Parliament’s various political blocs and movements.

During the visit, both parties affirmed the importance of bolstering bilateral cooperation between Jordan and Iraq, as well as tripartite cooperation among Jordan, Iraq and Egypt in accordance with the outcomes of the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership that was hosted recently by the Kingdom.

Leaders of the Iraqi political blocs unanimously appreciated Jordan’s stances in support of Iraq under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, and lauded His Majesty’s stand in defending the Palestinian issue, highlighting the importance of the Hashemite Custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

The Iraqi representatives focused on finalising the electricity interconnection project, the joint industrial city project and the Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline.

The two sides also discussed Jordan’s support for Iraq in counterterrorism and enhancing economic, political and security cooperation.
