AMMAN — Police on Thursday announced the arrest of a man who allegedly shot and killed his brother in Madaba, 30km southwest of Amman, earlier in the day.

The 51-year-old victim died at his home from two gunshot wounds allegedly fired by his brother on Thursday morning, Public Security Department Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

“The two had often argued about family matters, and the suspect confessed that he shot his brother today [Thursday],” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

The suspect then fled and was arrested later in the day, the spokesperson added.

The police official did not disclose how the suspect was arrested, but said investigators seized a gun and a vehicle believed to belong to him.

“The seized weapon was sent to the crime lab for a ballistic match,” Sartawi added.

A postmortem conducted by a team of pathologists at the Madaba National Institute of Forensic Medicine, comprising Saif Hamarneh and Wael Hiyasat, indicated that the victim died of internal bleeding that resulted from the gunshot wounds, a senior medical source said.

“The victim was struck with two bullets in the head and chest,” the source told The Jordan Times.

The suspect was referred to the Criminal Court prosecutor for further questioning and indictment, Sartawi said.
