AMMAN — A total of 105,000 families live below the poverty line and need national aid, Deputy Prime Minister Rajai Muasher said on Saturday.

During a meeting with the president and other members of the Professional Association Complex on the 2018 amendments to the Income Tax Law, Muasher highlighted the role of the social solidarity tax to provide the necessary aid to these households, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The minister said that raising the tax on the banking sector by 5 per cent entails a JD9 monthly increase on loan installments paid by citizens. Ibrahim Tarawneh, president of the complex and the Jordan Dental Association, said that some items in the bill are unfair to citizens, especially those related to reducing tax exemptions on basic commodities for underprivileged families.
