AMMAN — Prime Minister Hani Mulki on Saturday stressed the government's support for the Public Security Department (PSD) as it works to enhance security, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Accompanied by Interior Minister Salameh Hammad and Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani, Mulki visited the PSD and met with its director, Maj. Gen. Atef Saudi.

The premier expressed his pride in the PSD, noting that its role exceeds security and extends to social and economic arenas.

Mulki noted that this summer will be busy with various activities, such as the expected influx of tourists and expatriates, the Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts, the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Jordan 2016, the announcement of the General Secondary Education Certificate Examination results, and the upcoming parliamentary elections, which require additional efforts.

He also commended the security agency for its efforts during the month of Ramadan, and underlined the burden shouldered by the traffic department regarding the increase in traffic obstructions, congestion and double-parking.

The PSD’s biggest efforts are in its professionalism in solving crimes and bringing suspects to justice, Mulki said.

For his part, Saudi said all the department’s units and administrations have various plans and comprehensive programmes in place to develop police and security work and modernise strategies.
