AMMAN — Minister of Education Mohammad Thneibat on Saturday said the new school curricula are designed and authored by Jordanian academics, without any external input.
During a meeting with secretaries general of political parties, the minister also noted that the names of the authors of the curricula, all of whom have a distinguished academic history, are visible on textbook covers, adding that all curricula have undergone an overall change.
He stressed that no specific subject has been purposely removed from school books.
Thneibat also briefed party leaders on the ministry’s education reform plans which will include improving the content of education materials and teaching methodologies.
He also said that teachers have to be selected according to qualifications and not on the basis of the date of their application to the Civil Service Bureau.
For their part, representatives of political parties called for more cooperation between the ministry and other concerned agencies to curb negative behaviours of students.
