AMMAN — Over 1,000 young Jordanians have signed up to attend a networking event in Amman on Saturday to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the website For9a, which promotes educational opportunities.

Some 30 NGOs, embassies and academic institutions were expected to attend the event, to present opportunities and programmes to help young people advance their educations, said Al Mothafar Shobaki, the website’s media administrator.

The site, which posts educational and capacity building opportunities in the Middle East and North Africa, has 91,000 registered users in 25 countries, and reaches over 700,000 each day on social media, For9a said in a statement.

“We cannot count the number of beneficiaries of the opportunities published on the website because our mission is only to inform people about educational opportunities,” said Shobaki.

Guests at the event would be given a preview of the new beta version of For9a.com and its mobile app, he added.

Sami Horani started For9a’s blog in 2008, and launched the website in 2011 to widen awareness of scholarships, as he felt that such opportunities had been limited to a small group, according to Shobaki.

For9a employs 10 people, who work to inform young people about workshops, volunteering opportunities, capacity building and personal development courses, he added.
