Parliamentary committee continues deliberations of ‘Access to Information’ law

AMMAN — A Lower House Joint Committee on Sunday continued discussions with experts over the 2023 amendments to the Access to Information law. The committee's Sunday meeting was attended by State Minister for Legal Affairs Nancy Namrouqa, the secretary-general of the Ministry of Justice, the director general of the General Statistics Department, the deputy governor of the Central Bank, the director of legal affairs at the Ministry of Interior, the Commissioner of the NCHR, and the Director of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Culture, among others. Head of the Lower House Legal Committee MP Ghazi Thnaibat said that the committee will continue to listen to observations and suggestions on the draft law, which sets forth all legal aspects to accessing public data, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Namrouqa highlighted that proactive disclosure is one of the key principles of the right to information, adding that the proposed law achieves alignment and harmony with international standards.
