Petra University, Universiti Sains Malaysia collaborate on food safety research

AMMAN — The University of Petra and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) have recently entered into an agreement to undertake a joint research project focusing on the epidemiological aspects of food safety in Malaysia and Jordan.

This collaborative initiative, facilitated by Education Malaysia Jordan, aims to address crucial societal challenges and contribute to scientific advancements in the field, said a statement from the Malaysian embassy in Amman.

This research endeavour is co-led by experts in the field of food safety, Iman Fahmi Mahmoud from Petra University and Effarizah Mohd Esah from USM. 

"Education Malaysia Jordan is committed to fostering connections between exceptional researchers from Malaysia and Jordan to synergistically advance scientific knowledge for the benefit of humanity," stated Radzuwan Ab Rashid, the director of Education Malaysia Jordan cum minister counsellor (education), at the Malaysian embassy.

Mohamad Nasri Abdul Rahman, the ambassador of Malaysia to Jordan, underlined that the partnership between higher education institutions in Malaysia and Jordan extends beyond research and publications. 

The embassy, through its Education Malaysia Jordan office, aims to promote various forms of knowledge exchange, including faculty and student exchanges, joint conferences, seminars and workshops. These initiatives aim to foster cross-cultural understanding and facilitate the sharing of ideas, experiences and perspectives among academic communities.

USM made significant progress in the latest QS World University Rankings 2024, rising six places to rank 137 globally.
