AMMAN — Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan has met with Rector of the College of Europe and Director of the EU Diplomatic Academy Federica Mogherini over means to advance cooperation between Jordan and the college.
Toukan underscored the importance Jordan places on its partnership with the European Union, describing the EU as one of the Kingdom’s most significant development partners, according to a ministry statement released on Sunday.
She highlighted the EU’s role in supporting Jordan’s reform and development priorities, particularly within the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership launched in January.
The minister said that the partnership sets out areas of collaboration aligned with Jordan’s political, economic, and administrative modernisation agendas, expressing the government’s appreciation for the EU’s financial and technical assistance, noting its impact on national priorities.
During the meeting, Toukan reviewed progress on the Public Sector Modernisation Roadmap and stressed the importance of leadership training for government officials.
She welcomed closer cooperation with the College of Europe, calling it one of “the most respected” institutions in European studies.
As part of the new cooperation framework, the EU will fund an advanced training programme to boost the technical capacity of diplomats and public sector employees working in foreign affairs, European relations, and international cooperation.
The programme will include three successive training sessions, held in Amman and Belgium, with the first phase scheduled to start in October.
Mogherini commended Jordan’s stability and its pivotal regional role, emphasising the value of strong institutions in boosting national resilience.
She expressed interest in seeing Jordan share its experience with neighbouring countries and said she looked forward to welcoming the first group of trainees.
Mogherini also reaffirmed the college’s readiness to expand access to its postgraduate programmes for Jordanian students in the future.
EU Ambassador to Jordan Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas attended the meeting.
