PM, Italy’s Di Maio talk ties, region

AMMAN — Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Bisher Al Khasawneh on Sunday met with Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio and discussed bilateral relations and regional developments, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

In a meeting attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Italian Ambassador to Jordan Fabio Cassese, Khasawneh stressed the depth of ties between the two countries and the importance of furthering them politically and economically.

Under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, Jordan constantly reaffirms the significance of partnership with EU countries, the PM said.

Discussing Jordan’s stance towards regional developments, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause, the prime minister underlined that the lack of a fair solution that guarantees the establishment of the independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital will prevent the region from enjoying security and stability.

Khasawneh also pointed to Italy’s contributions and constructive role in finding solutions to the Arab-Israeli conflict.

The prime minister also discussed the economic challenges facing Jordan, adding that they were exacerbated by the spread of the coronavirus.

He also noted the measures taken by the government to transform challenges into opportunities for investing in a number of sectors, most notably pharmaceuticals, agriculture and medical equipment manufacturing.
