PM meets energy ministers of Egypt, Syria and Lebanon

AMMAN — Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Bisher Al Khasawneh on Wednesday met Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla, Syrian Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Bassam Tohme and Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water  Raymond Ghajar.

During the meeting, Khasawneh reiterated the Kingdom’s welcoming stance for the meeting of the four countries’ energy ministers to discuss means of enhancing cooperation in energy sector, delivering Egyptian gas to Lebanon through Jordan and Syria, as well as to expand cooperation to include Iraq. 

The premier highlighted the importance of such projects that enhance joint Arab action, stressing the Kingdom’s keenness on supporting Lebanon to overcome the exceptional circumstances, notably the energy crisis.

The four ministers briefed Khasawneh on the status of their countries’ infrastructure to transport Egyptian gas to Lebanon via the Arab Gas Pipeline (AGP), passing through Jordan and Syria. Talks also covered a number of technical issues that will be resolved in a ministerial meeting planned for the coming weeks, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
