AMMAN — The Public Security Department (PSD) on Thursday announced its security and traffic safety plan to be implemented during Ramadan, a PSD statement said.

The traffic plan, to be implemented by the Central Traffic Department, entails dealing with the increase of traffic congestions on main roads, shopping areas, and places of worship to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

PSD called upon residents to avoid traffic violations that cause traffic delays, to abide by rules and to comply with traffic police personnel.

Regarding security, the department announced measures to counter the rise in theft cases as people leave their homes for worshipping, travelling or shopping purposes.

PSD will increase the number of police officers and patrols in residential and market areas. The officers will closely monitor markets that are expected to be crowded during the holy month.

PSD also called on residents to avoid double or delayed parking, speeding, and other violations that jeopardise people’s safety.

The department warned residents against leaving their houses for extended periods of time, asking them to take necessary measures to ensure the safety of their houses and make sure their valuable items are in safe places. PSD also advised people not to carry valuables in public places, in addition to reporting any suspicious individual to 911.

In a separate statement, PSD stressed it will take strict measures against festive firing, as it is a life-threatening practice, calling on residents to report to the police if they witness any person firing.
