AMMAN — Chairman of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC) Khalil Hajj Tawfiq on Wednesday called for exploring new avenues of economic relations between Jordan and the Czech Republic during a meeting with President of the Chamber of Commerce Zdeněk Zajíček.
Hajj Tawfiq underscored the significance of Czech President Petr Pavel’s visit as a suitable opportunity to bolster and expand the economic ties between the two countries, highlighting the potential role of the private sector in this endeavour.
Hajj Tawfiq noted that the current trade exchanges between the two countries are relatively modest, with Jordan’s imports from the Czech Republic totalling 33 million euros in 2023.
Jordan imports machinery and mechanical equipment, wood, foodstuffs, chemicals and metals from the Czech Republic, while it exports foodstuffs, chemicals and basic metals to the Czech Republic.
He said that sectors such as information technology, agriculture, fertilisers, Dead Sea salts, tourism, and food could reap benefits from enhanced cooperation with the Czech Republic.
Zajíček stressed the importance of bolstering trade relations between Jordan and the Czech Republic, highlighting the need to enhance mutual cooperation and coordination mechanisms, achievable through the promotion of joint projects, delegation exchanges, and the signing of cooperation agreements.
