Price hikes to help narrow budget deficit — House committee

By JT - Feb 19,2017 - Last updated at Feb 19,2017

AMMAN — The Lower House committee to follow up on prices has estimated that the total revenues to be generated by the latest price and tax hikes are to reach JD450 million — as part of a plan to narrow the budget deficit, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Sunday.

The committee has studied all the commodities included in the decision and their impact on consumers, and will meet Prime Minister Hani Mulki and the concerned ministers over the next two days.

The committee will provide a report on the results of the study that will be discussed by the House. The government has agreed with the Parliament not to raise prices of basic commodities such as dates, chicken, dairy and cooking oil, the MPs said.
