AMMAN — Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, accompanied by Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, on Tuesday visited the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Accompanied by Prince Ghazi, His Majesty’s chief adviser for religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy, and chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Baptism Site Commission, UK’s Ambassador to Jordan Bridget Brind and Jordan’s Ambassador to the UK Manar Dabbas, the British royals toured a number of archaeological, religious and historical sites.

The tour began with a visit to Elijah’s Hill, the remains of a monastery and the cave in which John the Baptist lived, and concluded at the site where Jesus Christ was baptised.

The prince and duchess listened to a detailed explanation in regard to the archaeological features and facilities provided at the site.

Receiving a visit certificate, a rosary and a souvenir shield, the royal guests also signed the VIP register.

Located on the eastern bank of the Jordan River, the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ in Jordan, also known as Bethany Beyond the Jordan, is one of the most sacred places on earth for all Christians.
