AMMAN — HRH Princess Basma, president of the Jordanian Association for Boy Scouts and Girl Guides (JABSGG), on Sunday attended the 10th Arab Scouts and Arab Girl Guides Conference.

The JABSGG-organised event gathered delegations from scout and guide associations from 16 Arab countries, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Under the theme “Scouting and Humanitarian Work”, the conference aimed to facilitate the exchange of experiences and knowledge among the guest delegations, strengthen relations among scouts from Arab countries, promote humanitarian values and volunteerism within the scout movement, enhance the development of Arab scouting and showcase Jordan’s tourist and archaeological sites.

In her opening speech, Princess Basma emphasised the vital role of the scout movement in nurturing humanitarian values and promoting love, solidarity and respect for diverse perspectives. The tradition also encourages charitable and volunteer work without regard to gender, beliefs, colour, or race, the princess noted.

Princess Basma highlighted the significance of the Arab scout movement in addressing social issues and negative occurrences, as well as its contributions to raising awareness about environmental challenges faced by Arab countries and the world. She emphasised the importance of promoting eco-friendly behaviours and practices.

Other attendees noted the importance of expanding scouting in educational institutions across Arab countries. They commended the efforts of the JABSGG in hosting the conference, expressing appreciation for Jordan’s role in supporting and advancing Arab initiatives for the benefit of all Arab nations.

At the end of the ceremony,  Hassan Al Sabti, secretary-general of the Arab Union of Pioneer Scouts and Guides, presented Princess Basma with a congratulatory card on behalf of the participants, extending best wishes to Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania on the approaching wedding of HRH Crown Prince Hussein.

The conference also included various cultural activities and field visits, allowing participants to explore Jordan’s archaological and tourist attractions.
