AMMAN — HRH Princess Basma, chairperson of the Jordanian National Forum for Women (JNFW), on Monday stressed the importance of mentoring and English-language programme as pathways to young women’s success.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the programme, implemented by JNFW under the “Encouraging young women and inspiring networks for inclusive and transformational education” project, Princess Basma highlighted such initiatives’ role in empowering young women, developing their personal and professional skills, and expanding opportunities to pursue their aspirations.

She also underscored the importance of investing in young women’s education and empowerment as a “foundation for a more prosperous and sustainable future,” the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The princess praised the project’s focus on introducing participants to non-traditional career fields in key sectors, while boosting their English-language proficiency and communication skills to enhance their employment prospects and future career opportunities.

The programme targeted 108 young women from several governorates, providing specialised training in English and non-traditional employment sectors aligned with the evolving demands of the labour market.

Princess Basma also commended the efforts of organisers, partners, teachers and volunteers, stressing the value of such partnerships in supporting young women’s empowerment and broadening their future opportunities.

The programme adopted a vocational mentoring approach, whereby female mentors with expertise in the targeted fields were selected to guide, train and support the participating young women.

It also included regular sessions, practical learning activities, and field visits to relevant institutions operating in the respective sectors, in partnership with Microsoft Jordan, the Business and Professional Women’s Association, and the Irbid Directorate of Tourism.

JNFW seeks to build a “sustainable” women’s network focused on intergenerational and cross-sector learning among women from diverse professional backgrounds.

It also aims to raise young women’s awareness of their role in public life and highlight “influential” female role models who can inspire others to overcome social challenges and engage more actively in the labour market.
