AMMAN — The Ministry of Health and the United Nations Office of Project Services (UNOPS) on Wednesday launched a project to expand and equip three emergency departments at hospitals in Amman, Irbid and Mafraq.
The initiative, through a 10-million-euro contribution from the EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis, aims to meet the increasing health needs of the host communities and Syrian refugees in Jordan, according to an EU statement.
The three hospitals, Jamil Tutunji in the Sahab district of Amman, Ramtha Hospital in Irbid and Ruweished Hospital in Mafraq will also receive three fully-equipped ambulances to improve efficiency.
“The EU will continue to assist the Ministry of Health in improving the health services provided to local communities and Syrian refugees by meeting their health needs, promoting resilience and strengthening the national health system and services,” EU Ambassador to Jordan Andrea Matteo Fontana said at the launch ceremony.
Health Minister Saad Jaber said: “It is unquestionable that the support offered by the European Union over the past years is a backing for Jordanian efforts to face health sector challenges imposed by the effects of the Syrian crisis.”
