AMMAN — Community Media Network, a local media NGO, celebrated the conclusion of its European Union-funded “Empowering Civil Society through Media” project.

The programme, which was launched in January 2018, was extended by one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and resulted in several achievements, especially in the area of empowering women through media, according to a statement from the NGO.

Etaf Roudan, the project manager, said the EU-funded programme has trained 100 women across the Kingdom and has enabled them to express themselves.

“We have seen a remarkable increase in women learning how to use media to express themselves not only in the capital but throughout Jordan. Yet, much more effort is needed to close the gender gap in the media sector,” Roudan said in the statement.

Marina Rafti, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Jordan, praised the network’s efforts to operate outside Amman and give a voice to women in remote areas in particular.

Deputy Head of the EU Delegation Marina Rafti and CMN Director General Daoud Kuttab spoke at the closing event of the project, highlighting the need for empowering women in all fields.

Tareq Abu Ragheb, head of the Jordan Media Commission, delivered the message of Minister of State for Media Affairs Sakher Dudin, stressing the importance of making local media available to local communities throughout Jordan.
