PSUT wins first place in international cyber security competition

AMMAN — The cyber security team at Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) won first place in the Middle East, Europe and Africa category in a competition for intrusion detection held by Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), which was organised by RIT’s branch in Dubai. 

This year, the Jordanian teams participated in the competition from Al Ahliyya Amman University.

This victory qualified PSUT for the finals at RIT’s headquarters in Rochester, New York, which will take place in early 2023.

PSUT’s team consisted of the following students: Ahmed Al Jundi, Hamza Sahat, Omar Hamada, Mustafa Al-Shawa, Sami Iyad, and team leader Nizar Al Daradkeh, with the support of Amer Jarrar. 

Ashraf Ahmed, Dean of King Hussein School for Computing Sciences, supervised the team while Muhammad Ababneh from the cyber security department trained them. In second place came the American University of Sharjah, and RIT-Dubai won third place.

HRH Princess Sumaya, Chair of PSUT’s Board of Trustees, congratulated the winning students and their supervisors, expressing her pride in this achievement which reflects the university’s excellence and leadership at the local and regional levels, according to a statement made available to The Jordan Times on Tuesday. 

The princess added that this win also reflects the efficiency of PSUT’s programmes that refine students’ scientific and practical skills and stimulate competition and teamwork.

Acting president of the university, Wejdan Abu El Haija emphasised the university’s high level of support for students to achieve excellence through active participation in local and international competitions in line with PSUT’s cyber security major. 

The university also promotes disciplines related to cyber security in order to provide students with skills that will open doors for their employment after graduation.
