Under the agreement, a “pioneering” model for sustainable groundwater management will be developed and tested in selected water-stressed Mediterranean countries. Besides the RSCN, the partners include the University of Jordan, the two Italian Universities of Pavia and Padua, the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain, the Spanish University of Alicante, Turkish 9th of September University and the Reclamation Consortium of Emilia Canal.

Director of Azraq Wetland Reserve Hazem Khreisha said that the agreement falls within the EU-funded "Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area" programme.
