AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Wednesday spoke via phone with Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, and Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Constantinos Kombos, briefing the ministers on the results of the Amman consultative meeting on Syria.

Safadi acquainted his Italian and Cypriot counterparts with the new Arab path to progressively resolve the crisis in Syria using a step-by-step mechanism to end the suffering of the Syrian people and overcome the crisis' negative ramifications on the region and beyond, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

He also stressed the importance of the agreements reached in the meeting, which constitute a major step that has “broken the stalemate” in efforts to resolve the crisis and involved steps that address important aspects of the repercussions of the crisis.

When applied, these steps will contribute to achieving progress towards a political solution, the minister said, adding that there is no alternative method for resolving the crisis, the minister added.

The step-by-step methodology, detailed in the Jordanian initiative, is operational in light of the complexities and consequences of the crisis, represents the best way to deal with the crisis and offers space for positive steps and furthering progress towards a comprehensive solution that ends the crisis, Safadi stressed.

For their part, Tajani and Kombos welcomed the outcomes of the Amman meeting and stressed their support.
