AMMAN — Minister of Water and Irrigation Motasem Saidan on Tuesday checked the work of several water pumping stations in Mafraq, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Saidan noted that the ministry is in the process of drilling new wells in Alaqeb, especially that Mafraq has witnessed the greatest strain on its infrastructure due to the large influx of Syrian refugees.

Wells will be drilled in rural areas in Irbid and Ramtha district to ameliorate the water situation in the north.

The minister got familiarised with water supply and sewerage systems, water treatment plant, and water tanks at the Zaatari refugee camp to assess future projects and help serve residents. Mafraq Governor Yasser Adwan emphasised the need to upgrade and connect sewerage systems in some areas to improve water supply, Petra reported.
