Salt downtown applies for World Heritage Site status

By JT - May 17,2017 - Last updated at May 17,2017

AMMAN — The Cabinet on Wednesday approved allocating JD200,000 to support the candidacy of Salt downtown to be listed as a World Heritage Site, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Various agencies have prepared a portfolio and applied to UNESCO, in a bid to win protected status for Salt, 35km northwest of Amman.

It is hoped that Salt’s selection would preserve the town’s architectural heritage  and promote its distinctive historical and archaeological features, as well as increase the number of domestic and foreign visitors and boost tourism, Petra reported.
