Seminar held on climate change, water challenges

AMMAN — The Japanese embassy in Jordan and Al Balqa Applied University on Monday held a seminar on climate change and water challenges.

Koike Toshio, director of International Centre for Water Hazard and Risk Management, Public Works Research Institute in Japan, delivered the keynote address that covered the impact of climate change on water challenges in Jordan, shedding light on possible solutions and introducing Japan’s experience in dealing with these issues, according to an embassy statement.

Japanese Ambassador Shimazaki Kaoru said that Japan understands the importance and gravity of the water crisis in Jordan, stressing that water issues are among top priorities of Japan’s assistance policy in the Kingdom.

Former water minister Hazem Al Nasser appreciated the Japanese government’s efforts to improve the water supply system in Jordan.  Al Balqa Applied University President Ahmed Al Ajlouni emphasised the necessity to continue discussion and research on the impact of climate change and water challenges in Jordan.
