SALT — Employees of the health and higher education ministries, and the Royal Medical Services received training in nursing management from Singaporean instructors in Salt this week.

They joined participants from Bhutan, India, Sudan and the Maldives for a five-day course at Salt Hospitality Institute, the first to be held under a 2014 memorandum of understanding between the Vocational Training Corporation (VTC) and Singapore.

“Singaporean lecturers will contribute a lot of knowledge to all participants who attend this workshop, according to best international practices that will raise the level of performance of the nursing profession and will positively affect the health of the Jordanian citizens,” said VTC Assistant Director General Hani Khleifat on Sunday.

The corporation has 44 institutes across Jordan and around 400,000 Jordanians have benefited from its training programmes in the 40 years since it was established, Khleifat told The Jordan Times.

Jordan and Singapore have been cooperating in the field of training since 2006, he said, adding that the cooperation had led to the establishment of a Regional Centre for Training in Amman, offering courses on refrigeration and air conditioning.

Other training courses will be held in water management and general health, as part of the technical support provided by Singapore.

Singaporean lecturer Tay Wei Sern, the deputy director of the ITE College East, said 108,000 government officials around the world had benefited from the Singapore Cooperation Programme.

Non-Jordanians attending the workshop, which concludes Thursday, also have the opportunity to explore Jordan through tours provided by the VTC.
