AMMAN — The General Secondary Education Certificate Examination (Tawjihi) 2017's summer session will start on Tuesday, the Education Ministry announced on Monday.

Some 125,378 students are scheduled to sit for the exam, 83,627 of whom are regular students and 41,751 are private-study applicants and students who failed in previous sessions, who will retake the exam and will be eligible to apply to universities if they pass, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The exams will be split into two sessions: the first at 11am and the second at 1:30pm.

A total of 32,711 regular students and 11,108 private-study students are registered in the scientific stream, while the literary stream will see the participation of 36,872 regular students and 10,775 private-study students.

The national exam will be held in 1,198 halls in 419 schools across the Kingdom, in addition to six halls at correctional and rehabilitation centres, where 26 people are scheduled to sit for the
exam.

The ministry urged students to commit to the exams’ regulations, which include bringing a valid ID card, and not bringing mobile phones, electronic pens or any recording devices into the exam room.

The ministry called on students not to worry unduly about difficult exams, stressing that questions were prepared with consideration of students’ various capabilities and skills.

It also urged students to check exam schedules and the set time for each session, as well as to avoid any rumours that may spread before exams.

Also on Monday, the ministry announced the opening of an operations centre to follow up on the progress of the exams.

Ministry Spokesperson Walid Jallad said that parents and students can contact the centre for any enquiries on: 0777209900, 0777417439, 0796142000, 0790856829, 5699916, or 5654918; or fax number: 06/4646654; or through the Facebook page:  www.facebook.com/edugovjo; or twitter: twitter.com/edugovjo, Petra added.
