AMMAN — The Textile, Readymade Clothes and Footwear Syndicate is leading an in-kind donations campaign for people in Gaza, in cooperation with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO).

“Jordanian clothing and footwear merchants from around the world have answered our call to help our brothers and sisters in Gaza,” member of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce and president of the Textile, Readymade Clothes and Footwear Syndicate, Sultan Allan told The Jordan Times.

The equivalent of the load of four high-cube containers has so far been donated to the ongoing campaign, which was launched last week, according to Allan.

He noted that the syndicate oversees the process, ensuring that donated clothes and footwear are new, of high-quality and cover all age groups.

He also said that the campaign has received donations from Jordanian clothing and footwear merchants in Jordan, Turkey, China and Vietnam.

Jordanian merchants in China gathered the equivalent of nine containers of clothing and footwear within 24 hours. These will be shipped to Jordan and delivered to the JHCO, added Allan.

He stressed that since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza, the Textile, Readymade Clothes and Footwear Syndicate has worked to support relief efforts in Jordan.

According to Allan, the syndicate has donated over JD260,000 to Arabian Medical Relief, a Jordanian medical charitable society that reports to the Ministry of Health. He noted that these donations aimed to provide medicine and medical supplies to people in Gaza.

Allan added that the current campaign is focused on in-kind donations, because these are more accessible to clothing and footwear merchants than cash.

He explained that money flow might not be very strong during these “tough” economic times, but goods are always available in warehouses, making it easier for more merchants to help support Jordan’s relief efforts.
