AMMAN — Tkiyet Um Ali, a non-profit organisation providing food support to vulnerable communities in Jordan, on Sunday launched its campaign for the month of Ramadan, titled "Your Zakat is Mercy", to highlight the impact that zakat money has on underprivileged families.

This year, the organisation’s campaign comes at a time of crisis, Tkiyet Um Ali Director General Samer Balqar said, adding that it aims to shed light on the impact of donors’ zakat money as well as Tkiyet Um Ali’s emergency relief efforts during the current crisis, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The campaign’s slogan is "Pay your zakat from your home", which reflects the organisation’s keenness to support adherence to health regulations and instructions, it said in a statement.

According to Islamic law, or Sharia, zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam, a tax that requires paying 2.5 per cent of what a Muslim owns in cash money, gold, silver, cattle, farms and rentable assets, in alms.

Tkiyet Um Ali provides “reliable and effective ways” to give zakat money and all other donations through its website tua.jo, its smartphone application TUA, the eFAWATEERCOM electronic payment platform and the phone number 064900900.
