WAJ, stakeholders discuss limiting negative impact of industrial wastewater

AMMAN — The Water Ministry/Water Authority of Jordan (WAJ) on Monday hosted a meeting, supported by USAID and attended by several stakeholders, to discuss ways to limit the negative impact of industrial wastewater on desalination plants across the Kingdom, especially a plant in southern Amman, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

The meeting went over the harmful effects of industrial wastewater on the quality, characteristics and units of wastewater treatment, as it contains high amounts of “suspended solids”, according to a ministry statement. 

WAJ Assistant Secretary General for Sanitation Affairs Wael Duwairi referred to the negative impact of disposing of such harmful materials into sanitation manholes, stressing the need to reach a solution that can preserve both the environment and public safety. 

The meeting was attended by representatives of USAID, the ministries of environment, health, and local administration, and local water companies.
