WANA Forum to focus legal empowerment of the poor

AMMAN — The sixth annual West Asia – North Africa (WANA) Forum will be held in Amman on June 11-12.

HRH Prince Hassan, chairman of the WANA Forum, will deliver the keynote address on how legal empowerment can be used as an effective tool for conflict resistance, and for transforming the lives of the poor and most marginalised segments of the population, according to a statement sent to The Jordan Times.

The 2014 Forum will seek to arrive at ways to arrive at a fundamental and transformational reform of legal systems in countries across the WANA region.

“By excluding justice and the rule of law, the first set of the Millennium Development Goals were rendered ineffective in truly transforming the lives of the poorest and the most marginalised,” the statement quoted the prince as saying.

“As efforts to articulate a roadmap beyond 2015 draw to a close, it is especially important that we act now to include a goal on justice and legal empowerment in the post-2015 development agenda.”
