AMMAN — Ajloun police on Wednesday announced the arrest of a 45-year-old “wanted man”, who has been in hiding for nine years, in a raid at his home last week.

“We received information that the suspect, whom we consider dangerous, went back to his home in Anjara over a month ago,” said Ajloun Police Department Director Brig. Gen. Ziad Bakir.

The police official added that a special police unit monitored the suspect for over a month, then “raided his house and arrested him without any major incidents”.

“He immediately surrendered when we stormed the house and we did not have to fire a single bullet in the process,” Bakir told The Jordan Times.

The suspect has 106 criminal records, including possessing ammunition and illegal narcotics trading, according to a statement by the Public Security Department (PSD).

Bakir added that his department has launched a campaign against wanted suspects in Ajloun Governorate, which is located some 74km northwest of Amman and has a population of over 150,000, according to the Department of Statistics.

“We have arrested around 114 wanted suspects who were mostly involved in illegal drug possession and trading as well as possessing automatic weapons,” the police official said.

Bakir said all the arrested suspects were referred to the relevant prosecutors for questioning and indictment.
