Water theft cases uncovered in Balqa, Southern Shuneh

AMMAN — The Water Ministry/Water Authority of Jordan (WAJ) has implemented a security campaign to prevent water theft in Ein Al Basha and Omm Injassa in the Balqa and Southern Shuneh areas. 

Water is illegally diverted for irrigation and to fill swimming pools in tourist chalets in these areas, according to a Water Ministry statement.

The ministry said that its personnel, in cooperation with security agencies, dismantled four illegal fixtures on water pipes in Ein Al Basha which were used to illegally divert water to farms, uncovered two violations in Omm Injassa to illegally divert water to farms and two water theft cases in Southern Shuneh where water is illegally diverted to fill swimming pools. 

The ministry called on the public to report cases of water theft.
