AMMAN — Police on Saturday night were questioning a man who allegedly dumped the body of his murdered wife in front of Mafraq Public Hospital earlier in the day, official sources said.

The victim’s body was dumped from a pick-up truck that stopped in front of the hospital and then drove off, Public Security Department Spokesperson Maj. Amer Sartawi said.

Eyewitnesses wrote down the licence plate number of the vehicle and gave it to police, a second source told The Jordan Times.

Police issued an all-points bulletin with the details of the pickup truck, and the suspect was arrested shortly afterwards, the second source added.

“We managed to arrest the husband and are currently questioning him to learn more about the incident and what happened to his wife, and whether he is involved in her murder,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

The information related to the case is not complete, he said, adding that “police cannot release any information until we hear the account of the husband and other relatives.”

Initial examination of the body by Irbid National Institute of Forensic Medicine’s Ali Shotar indicated that the victim received “one fatal stab wound to the chest”, a medical source told The Jordan Times.

“Shotar and his team are expected to conduct a government autopsy on the victim once someone from her family identifies her,” the source said.
