Workshop held on improving energy efficiency in buildings in Mediterranean region

By JT - Feb 26,2022 - Last updated at Feb 26,2022

AMMAN — The Royal Scientific Society (RSS) participated in the joint Euro-Mediterranean workshop: “Innovation & impact: Good practices in energy efficiency for buildings in Mediterranean cities”.

The workshop was organised by the three European projects SEACAP 4 SDG, MeetMED and Efficient Buildings Community, according to an RSS statement.

The online workshop addresses decision-makers and local authorities, as well as local, regional and national energy agencies and presents a “panorama of replicable tools and methodologies in the field of energy efficiency for buildings”.

Six working groups were formed during the online workshop where participants from the beneficiary countries, including Jordan, discussed and explored their cities’ needs and investigated the transferability of the proposed solutions at a territorial level, the statement said.

Moreover, the RSS participated in the online launching of the SEACAP 4 SDG project, which aims to find innovative solutions to reduce energy consumption in public buildings, using cost-effective approaches to energy refurbishment and through integrating “sustainable energy access and climate action plans” for cities.

The RSS mentioned that the SEACAP 4 SDG project will work on the inputs and outcomes of 14 selected reference projects financed within different EU Initiatives (ENI CBCMED, INTERREG MED, UfM). The project will adapt the gained knowledge to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of energy refurbishment strategies adapted to local Mediterranean specificities.

The RSS stated that the outcomes will be implemented in nine cities around the Mediterranean, which will be selected through a call for interest to be launched in March 2022.

The society indicated that there will be a specific capacity building mechanism and training activities to support the selected cities in adapting and implementing the tools and methodologies for further replication and capitalisation.

The project is led by Euromed Cities Network/Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis (France) and in partnership with the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Egypt, University of Patras in Greece, Naples Agency for Energy and Environment (ANEA) in Italy, Lebanese Centre for Energy Conservation (LCEC), Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya (IREC) in Spain, Institut Valencia de l’Edificacio (IVE) in Spain, Mediterranean Renewable Energy Centre (MEDREC) as well as the Royal Scientific Society/National Energy Research Centre in Jordan.
