AMMAN — Jordan’s historic qualification for the FIFA World Cup presents a rare opportunity to drive economic growth and stimulate key industrial sectors, according to Chairman of the Jordan Chamber of Industry Fathi Jaghbir.
In a statement to The Jordan Times, Jaghbir said that “the World Cup momentum offers a powerful platform to restore consumer confidence in locally manufactured goods and position Jordanian products more competitively.”
Despite ongoing regional challenges impacting supply chains and export routes, Jaghbir noted that Jordan’s industrial sector recorded one of its strongest performances in two decades during the first third of 2025.
Economist Waseem Hussein told The Jordan Times that linking national economic planning with a global event like the World Cup is a “strategic move” that can create both branding momentum and long-term investment incentives in the industrial sector.
“This is a moment for Jordan to establish durable trade ties,” said economist Rand Khoshman, emphasising that national pride sparked by the World Cup should translate into expanded trade outreach and industrial promotion.
Khoshman also pointed to potential spillover benefits for sectors such as packaging, printing, and logistics — provided they are prepared to scale rapidly and forge connections with international markets. “Timing is critical,” she noted.
Jaghbir concluded by underscoring the need for a coordinated national industrial marketing strategy grounded in authentic public-private sector cooperation, aimed at capitalising on untapped export potential.
