AMMAN — A Daehan Wind Power Company (DHWP) owned wind project was launched on Thursday in Tafileh govenorate, the southern region.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Hala Zawati, during the ceremony, said that the 52-megawatt wind project with a projected annual output of 155 gigawatt hours a year, is part of the Kingdom’s 2020-2030 Energy Strategy, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The Kingdom’s energy strategy is meant to ensure sustainable and clean sources of energy through reaching installed capacity of 3,200 megawatts, to contribute to the total energy mix by 31 per cent.

The government’s partnership with the private sector to implement such projects has placed Jordan among the world's leading countries in the field of renewable energy, she said.

Zawati added that the installed capacity of renewable energy projects has surpassed 2,270 megawatts, out of which 1,645 megawatts are from solar energy projects and 625 megawatts are from wind power projects.

She noted that the combined capacity of projects to cover consumption in the private sector reached some 825 megawatts, distributed over more than 34,000 systems.
