Flashpoints still awaiting resolution

Apr 19,2018 - Last updated at Apr 19,2018

Washington is in deep paralysis over one controversy after another exploding as out of the ordinary bombshells over President Donald Trump's personal record and past relationships.

The most recent episode surfaced when the office of his personal attorney, Michael Cohen, was investigated by law authorities to gather information and evidence, including documents, about the allegedly unprofessional conduct of the president, including his suspected payment of "hush money" to women, allegedly prostitutes.

This latest development came on the heels of the publication of a new "say it all" book by former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey.

During an interview with ABC News, he said that Trump, in his opinion, is "morally unfit to be president”. When asked whether Russia has something on President Trump, he did not exclude this possibility.

Of course, these never ending serials about President Trump and what he said or did not say, did or did not, continue to take a devastating toll on the conduct of state affairs in the most powerful country in the world.

Even the news about missile attacks on Syrian chemical facilities were submerged in the middle of the new revelations about the president of the US.

It is most unfortunate that the reigns of power in Washington are now in a state of suspension with the president preoccupied with the defence of his personal lifestyle that occurred before he assumed office last year.

Whatever the merits or demerits of the charges being levelled against the president, they should not be allowed to stand in the way of the solemn duties and responsibilities of the US and its elected president, especially when there is a growing number of regional and international flash points that await resolution.
