A tribute to a historic reign

Sep 10,2022 - Last updated at Sep 10,2022

The passing of Queen Elizabeth, the longest-serving British monarch, draws the curtain to an era for Britain, the Commonwealth and the wider world.

The 96-year-old monarch’s seven-decade reign saw Britain and the world through a span of changes, and carried out public duties with dignity, grace and devotion. For UK citizens and many people across the world, the Queen was the symbol of Britain.

The Queen’s 70-year reign saw 15 prime ministers, from Winston Churchill to Liz Truss, who met the Queen two days before her death to be confirmed as prime minister. Her tenure also spanned the terms of 14 US presidents.

His Majesty King Abdullah has extended his condolences to King Charles III and Prime Minister Liz Truss over the passing of the Queen.

King Abdullah, in a letter to King Charles III, paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II’s enduring international impact, describing her as an example of wisdom, balanced leadership and dedication to service.

On the occasion of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, which commemorated 70 years on the throne, King Abdullah described the Queen as “a beacon of light and hope” in an interview with the BBC.

The King also reflected upon the strong bond of friendship between the two royal families.

In 1984, during a state visit to Jordan, Queen Elizabeth described the Kingdom as “a beacon of stability in the region”, also noting that the visit fulfilled “a lifelong ambition” of hers.

Queen Elizabeth was revered for her peerless consistency and steadfastness through her seven decades as monarch. In often tumultuous times, she represented a beacon of stability for her people.

The global outpouring of tributes, from the palaces to the streets, is a testimony to her commitment to public service. With the passing of Queen Elizabeth, a reassuring presence has been lost from the global stage. Yet, her legacy endures.
