Under leadership of new President and CEO Alejandro Reynal, iconic luxury brand continues to drive global growth and strategic development across new and existing lines of business

AMMAN — Leading luxury hospitality company, Four Seasons, continues to expand its development pipeline, elevating its experiential offerings and accelerating bold new ventures that capitalise on the company’s strong business foundation and singular focus on the luxury segment. Through the lens of unmatched guest-centricity and personalisation, Four Seasons is investing in a robust commercial strategy, enhancing its ability to meet the growing demand for travel and luxury experiences.

In October, the company appointed Alejandro Reynal as President and CEO, marking a new chapter that builds on Four Seasons renowned legacy and leadership position within the luxury hospitality industry.

“Since joining Four Seasons, I have seen firsthand the company’s clear competitive advantage: unparalleled service excellence, a renowned brand and a corporate culture powered by the genuine heart of its people,” says Reynal. “Four Seasons business is stronger than ever. Our experienced leadership team is well positioned to take advantage of the myriad opportunities ahead, focusing on an evolved growth strategy that continues to generate value for our hotel owners, employees, guests and residents.”

Reynal continues: “True luxury should always represent the authentic expression of personalisation. At Four Seasons, this has always been our brand promise, and it inspires our people in every interaction. We continue to invest in our capabilities, empowering our teams with the tools they need to enhance the guest experience and elevate the genuine service that has always been our hallmark.”

A growing portfolio of award-winning luxury properties

For more than 60 years, Four Seasons has been defining the art of luxury hospitality, with an enviable global portfolio of 126 luxury hotels and resorts and 53 branded residences. In 2022, Four Seasons opened seven exceptional new properties, including new hotels and residences in Fort Lauderdale, Minneapolis and Nashville, as well as two new resort experiences in Mexico, in Tamarindo, and with the opening of its first tented-resort in North America at Naviva, Punta Mita, A Four Seasons Resort. The company also expanded its growing collection of standalone Private Residences with new offerings in Marrakech and Dubai, providing discerning homeowners the opportunity to live with Four Seasons outside of a hotel or resort.

Four Seasons has more than 50 new projects under planning or development, including in Italy, Spain, China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Colombia, Belize and many more, expanding and strengthening relationships with new and existing owner partners with each new property it opens. In the year ahead, the company will expand its offerings with two new planned hotel openings in China in Suzhou and Dalian; and projects in the Middle East including new residences in Bahrain Bay, a second property in Doha, and a new hotel in Rabat, Morocco.

Four Seasons recently announced upcoming projects that will further distinguish its global portfolio, from a historic legend in Venice to soaring new towers in Melbourne and Xi’an. In addition, the Middle East continues to be a market of key growth, with upcoming projects in Jeddah at the Corniche, Diriyah, New Cairo Capital at Madinaty, Luxor and Muscat.

Four Seasons residential business drives strategic growth

Four Seasons Private Residences have been a natural extension of the brand since 1985, when the company’s first residential project opened in Boston. Almost 40 years later, Four Seasons achieved a milestone moment with the opening of the 50th Four Seasons Private Residences in Fort Lauderdale, with further additions welcomed to the portfolio by the end of 2022.

Residential continues to be a significant driver for Four Seasons strategic growth, with a robust five-year pipeline comprising more than 30 projects worldwide.

Central to Four Seasons residential growth strategy is the expansion of its standalone offerings. Since the first standalone opening in London in 2018, the offering has expanded to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Marrakech, and Dubai, the latter selling out prior to going to public sales. Upcoming openings are slated in Lake Austin and beyond.

Taking to the skies, seas and roads with Four Seasons

In addition to new hotel and residential openings, Four Seasons has expanded its experiential offerings to provide guests new and distinctive ways to engage with the brand, including the Four Seasons Private Jet Experience, At Home Collection, and the recently announced Four Seasons Yachts. A collection of nearly 600 restaurants and bars worldwide and 126 spas also extends the Four Seasons experience, welcoming a growing segment of repeat local guests. Four Seasons restaurants and bars are built upon best-in-class, innovative concepts that are brought to life by craftspeople who share a passion for incredible service and exceptional culinary offerings.

In the skies, guests can experience the brand’s legendary service aboard the Four Seasons Private Jet Experience. Late last year, an all-new jet — designed with input from past guests — took flight, taking guests on bespoke journeys around the globe. With 2023 itineraries nearly sold out and a full calendar of 2024 journeys just announced, the programme continues to grow.

In September 2022, Four Seasons announced the introduction of Four Seasons Yachts. With the first vessel anticipated to embark in 2025, the 679-foot (207 metre) yacht will offer an unprecedented level of personalised service, with a 1:1 guest to staff ratio, and expansive, residential-style suite accommodations among many other on-board amenities.

Following the success of the inaugural Beyond by Four Seasons driving journey in Tuscany in 2022, new and exciting itineraries will be unveiled later this year giving travellers the opportunity to explore exceptional destinations behind the wheel of a classic or modern luxury sportscar.

Across every touchpoint, on the ground, in the sky and soon on the seas, guests will enjoy the genuine, personalised service and care delivered by Four Seasons more than 50,000 employees worldwide, and for which the brand has been renowned for more than 60 years.

R&D lays foundation of national economic transformation — Huawei

Dec 13,2022 - Last updated at Dec 13,2022

As research and development (R&D) investments help drive growth, create more jobs, and meet the future demands of societies and nations, Huawei places a high value towards R&D to nurture an advanced ICT sector.
The success of the ICT sector, the company believes, is key to addressing societal challenges, supporting economic recovery, raising the bar in commercial competitiveness and opening new revenue streams for businesses.
With the exponential advances in modern technology, 5G, in particular, can change how humanity works, travels, entertains ourselves and communicates.
Starting in 2009, Huawei invested more than $600 million to 5G technology development over a five-year period, followed by a further $1.4 billion for 5G product development in 2017 and 2018.
Huawei’s R&D spending totalled around $22.4 billion in 2021, representing 22.4 per cent of the company’s total revenue. This brings its total R&D expenditure over the past 10 years to over $132.5 billion. In terms of R&D expenditure, Huawei ranked second in the 2021 EU Industrial R&D Investment Scoreboard.
In 2021, Huawei’s total employment measured around 107,000 worldwide, representing approximately 54.8 per cent of the entire R&D workforce.
In the same year, Huawei signed 50 5G commercial contracts and had 150,000 base station shipments, demonstrating that the company has one of the largest patent portfolios in the world.
Huawei is the only equipment provider to provide end-to-end 5G products and solutions. The company’s 5G network RAN portfolio was ranked a leader for the third year in a row in Global Data’s H2, 2021 report.
Furthermore, the company has taken the lead in 6G research and development. As early as 2019, Huawei began R&D on the sixth-generation technology. Rotating chairman Eric Xu announced last year that the company plans to launch its 6G networks in 2030.
Today, Huawei is leveraging its R&D capabilities in its ambitious diversification drive. The company launched the Huawei Digital Power unit last year to digitise the energy sector. Digital Power is committed to integrating digital and power electronics technologies, developing clean power and enabling energy digitalisation to drive the energy revolution for a better, greener future, consistent with the United Nations development goals to meet the challenges of climate change.
HUAWEI CLOUD is the fastest-growing cloud services provider in the world and has emerged as an essential platform for internet companies and organizations to go digital. These numbers have been updated five years into its development, HUAWEI CLOUD has attracted 2.6 million developers, 28,000 consulting partners, 9,000 technical partners, and released 6,100 marketplace products.
In the Middle East, HUAWEI CLOUD offers more than 220 cloud services, 210 solutions, 19 data centres, over 200 local partners, and a growing list of more than 80 marketplace offerings.
To deepen the region’s cloud ecosystem, HUAWEI CLOUD announced the launch of a new startup support programme, Spark, in the Middle East last year. Spark is part of the HUAWEI CLOUD Oasis Programme launched in September 2021, where the company announced plans to invest $15 million over the following three years to accelerate the development of technology enterprises and ecosystems in the Middle East.
Spark will see 50 SMEs receive up to $15,000 fund support on HUAWEI CLOUD in addition to cloud training during the programme’s first phase.
A select group of SMEs will then join Spark Accelerate Programme, receiving further technical support from HUAWEI CLOUD experts to help transform their businesses in the cloud and evolve their offerings.
Developers are key to Huawei’s continued innovation. Updated this slightly as well in 2019, Huawei committed to investing $1.5 billion in its developer programme over the next five years, supporting five million developers and enabling partners worldwide to develop next-generation intelligent applications and solutions for example, the Huawei Global App Innovation Contest and Huawei Best Arabic App category specifically highlights the nurturing innovation in the Arab World. Moreover, the Huawei Spark Programme targeted entrepreneurs and SMEs.
MENA countries are at a significant advantage in the race to define the digital economy. 5G is critical in this endeavour and billions of dollars in new value rest on crucial choices in the following years.

Four Seasons Hotel Amman to celebrate 20th anniversary next year

By - Dec 04,2022 - Last updated at Dec 04,2022

Carlo Stragiotto

AMMAN — The recently launched rebrand of the Four Seasons Hotel & Resort is inspired and driven by the hotel guests' feedback on their personal experiences, which makes the "human connection" the catalyst, a top executive at Four Seasons Hotel Amman said.

In an interview with Carlo Stragiotto, the hotel's general manager in Amman, he outlined new services offered to customers to enrich their experience and voiced optimism that a full recovery from COVID-19 is taking shape.

His remarks came as the award-winning luxury hotel prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary in Jordan in 2023.

Elaborating on the new brand identity of “luxury with genuine heart and the philosophy behind it”, Stragiotto said the future of luxury "is defined by human connection and imagination", adding that the new brand identity "celebrates Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts’ unique and energetic perspective on the definition of luxury, which highlights the exceptional experiences delivered only by Four Seasons through the deep understanding of its guests and the genuine care of its people".

"We take our guests' feedback very seriously so it’s important to note that the brand identity is inspired by real stories of actual Four Seasons guest experiences, reflected in feedback surveys, comments and in conversations with hotel teams," he said.

According to Stragiotto, Four Seasons staff members universally apply a simple rule: Treat people just the way you would like to be treated. This approach, he told The Jordan Times, is reflected in utmost efforts to provide unparalleled service and care to guests.

Another manifestation of personalised services is the "Four Seasons Private Jet Experience" where guests were welcomed to Jordan "with genuinely personalised service combined with authentic Jordanian hospitality. The value of the Four Seasons Private Jet Experience in Jordan extends far beyond luxury and exclusivity — it’s about the locals our guests met, the new flavours they experienced, the sights and sounds they took in and the incredible memories that will last a lifetime."

This trip to Jordan came as part of the Ancient Explorer itinerary, which is a journey to 10 destinations aboard the custom-designed Four Seasons Private Jet. Over 24 days guests experienced the legendary wonders of the world like never before, from the Great Barrier Reef and the Pyramids to remote Easter Island and the Lost City of Petra.

Industry recognition

Four Seasons Hotel Amman has become the first and only hotel in Jordan to have earned the five-star rating from Forbes Travel Guide this year, the only global rating system for luxury hotels, restaurants and spas. It has also won the prestigious 2022 Travel + Leisure World’s Best Award as Top City Hotel in Jordan and the Fourth Top City Hotel in North Africa and the Middle East.

Commenting on the achievements, Stragiotto said: "We are honoured to have been recognised by some of the most reputable industry groups and respected publications in the world for excellence in luxury hospitality.”

Full recovery from pandemic

After the painful blows the hotel industry received as a consequence of COVID-19, Stragiotto has good news. He said the hotel industry in Jordan, especially at Four Seasons Hotel Amman, has fully recovered from the pandemic.

"We have seen average occupancy levels at five-star luxury hotels to exceed 60 per cent, even showing better results than in 2019." He attributes this to customer behaviour patterns taking shape after the world re-opened in the aftermath of the pandemic.

"People are craving travel," Stragiotto said, "and we are seeing guests from the United States, United Kingdom, Europe and the Gulf countries showing interest in Jordan as a destination with the need to experience something new while selecting the luxury hotel brands that they trust."

"As guests continue to value seamless, worry-free travel, ‘Lead with Care’, which is Four Seasons’ enhanced health and safety programme, remains a fixture at our property, evolving for the future to ensure guests feel confident and cared for throughout their Four Seasons journey."

Happy 20th anniversary

Four Seasons Hotel Amman is celebrating its 20th anniversary next year and on the drawing board, there are plans to mark this occasion and highlight their achievements. Stragiotto described the occasion as a "milestone".

"In the last 20 years, our guests have entrusted us with countless memories, and while quite a lot has changed in two decades. We believe these memories will continue and we look forward to building more for many more years to come by delivering meaningful, personalised and warm luxury experiences, one small act at a time."

Efforts towards boosting tourism

Stragiotto said that Four Seasons is a key actor in efforts to enhance Jordan's tourism, which is already taking off with a new spirit, explaining that they approach such a synergic endeavour at two levels — the first is to be an effective team player at the national level, and the second is to enter one-on-one partnerships with local strategic partners, with outcomes eventually serving the entirety of the hospitality sector and, subsequently, the national economy.

He said: "Our partners in the public sector and in all other components of the tourism industry are fully aware that Four Seasons has historically been more than ready to play its role and do its part in any scheme agreed upon by stakeholders. We support any win-win scenario and believe that the success of any partner would inevitably reflect on the performance of the other sectors."

For example, he said, "when the government, private sector and civil society institutions manage to stimulate the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) business, hotels will benefit significantly. The guests who experience our luxury hospitality and unparalleled service will be Jordan's ambassadors in their countries and among their communities. It's an act of synergy and teamwork, and we are open to ideas for the benefit of all."

In the meantime, the hotel is working on an individual track to support tourism through business with the right partners, including local sustainable service provider Baraka Destinations to "curate exclusive and authentic experiences around the marvellous historical towns of Umm Qais and Pella that are all owned, managed and run by the local communities in these Jordanian villages.

Healthy competition

Stragiotto acknowledged that there is increasing competition among the five-star hotels in Amman, but he welcomed the trend.

"We believe it’s very healthy to have such reputable hospitality brands in Jordan. The supply will drive the demand in Jordan, so, ultimately, all of these luxury brands will contribute to increasing tourism in the country. We also believe that the increased number of competitors, especially in the luxury market, heightens the status of Amman as an attractive destination. We look at this expansion in light of the encouraging national tourism figures in 2021 and 2022, and the hoped success of the National Tourism Strategy for 2021-2025, which seeks to break the 2019 record of JD4.1 billion in revenues."
