AMMAN (JT) - His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday urged the international community to shoulder its responsibility in stopping the Israeli aggression on Gaza and ending the suffering of the people there.

During a meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, King Abdullah said that bringing an end to the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip and assisting the people must be a top priority for the world.

The King cautioned that the Israeli aggression has reached a point that is totally rejected from the political, legal and moral perspectives. Nothing justifies inaction in this regard, he said.

King Abdullah stressed the need to force Israel to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1860, cease fire, lift the siege imposed on Gaza, open the crossings and allow humanitarian and medical assistance to enter the strip.

The King told the UN chief that Jordan is willing to facilitate the work of UN entities working to address the ramifications of the humanitarian crisis created by the Israeli aggression.

His Majesty also expressed Jordan’s readiness to partner with these organisations to ensure the provision of assistance and support to Gaza residents.

Ban said his tour to the region is intended to secure the implementation of Resolution 1860 and bring a ceasefire in Gaza.

He arrived in Amman earlier yesterday as part of a regional tour to discuss the repercussions of the Israeli offensive on Gaza and efforts exerted to stop the attacks.

In Cairo, Ban called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, reiterating that there is no time to be wasted.

He also called for the speedy dispatch of humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

Also yesterday, King Abdullah received a telephone call from Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad Ben Khalifa Al Thani.

The two leaders discussed means to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza, another Royal Court statement said.

The two leaders also reviewed Arab and international efforts to bring an end to the Israeli onslaught.

They also discussed Qatar’s invitation for an emergency Arab summit, proposed to be held in Doha.

Jordan said Tuesday it would go to any Arab summit provided there was a consensus among member states on holding the meeting.
