Dahabi briefed on Jordan Hospital-George Washington University deal

AMMAN (Petra) - Prime Minister Nader Dahabi met on Thursday with Stanley Knoll, medical director for the International Medicine Programme at George Washington University. At the meeting, the premier was briefed on future cooperation between Jordan Hospital and George Washington University, particularly plans to build a private medical university in Jordan. The university will be created under a memorandum of understanding signed between the two sides Thursday, under which Jordan Hospital will be a main shareholder with the support of the university.

Jordan, Syria sign agreement to increase judicial exchange

AMMAN (Petra) - Jordan and Syria signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday to enhance bilateral cooperation in the judicial and legal sector. The memo entails the exchange of visits by delegations from the Judicial Institute of Jordan and the Syrian Judicial Institute to learn from each other’s experience in legal work. It also stipulates the exchange of curricula and training and cooperating in the use of the technology in courts. Under the memo, Syrian students will study at the Judicial Institute of Jordan and Jordanian students will study to the Syrian Judicial Institute, according to Minister of Justice Ayman Odeh.

JHCO aid convoy destined for Gaza reaches Palestinian territories

KING HUSSEIN BRIDGE (Petra) –– An 18-truck aid convoy laden with foodstuff and medical supplies heading. to the Gaza Strip arrived in the Palestinian territories on Thursday. The aid was sent by the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation. The convoy is loaded with 210 tonnes of drugs, medical supplies and foodstuff. The aid included medical supplies donated by the Iraqi government as well as donations by Jordanian organisations and other countries.

Jordan construction contractors launch Gaza photo campaign

AMMAN (JT) - The Jordan Construction Contractors Association on Wednesday said it will launch a campaign to collect photos and snapshots of the "barbaric" Israeli aggression on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. The association called on citizens and civil society organisations join its efforts which will be part of its campaign to send the photos and snapshots to world decision makers via e-mail and SMS. The association called on the public to check its website, www.jcca.org.jo/ to learn more about the campaign.

Centre for Defending Freedom of Journalists urges protection in Gaza

AMMAN (JT) - The Centre for Defending the Freedom of Journalists (CDFJ) called on Thursday for international organisations to act immediately to protect journalists in Gaza in light of the ongoing Israeli military offensive. "We have to move quickly and urgently to save the journalists and Israel is required to respect international humanitarian laws and immediately stop targeting journalists," CDFJ Director Nidal Mansour said in a statement released by the centre yesterday. Mansour emphasised UN Security Council Resolution 1738 of 2006 which prohibit attacks on journalists and the media.

Lower House committee calls for increase in Jordan TV budget

AMMAN (Petra) - The Lower House Finance and Economic Committee on Thursday recommended increasing the budget of the Jordan Radio and Television Corporation in order to promote its performance and enhance its production quality. The recommendation was made during the committee's Thursday meeting to discuss the budgets of 57 independent governmental agencies, according to MP Mefleh Rheimi, head of the House Finance Committee. He said that the committee is expected to refer next Sunday a draft law regarding the agencies’ budgets to the Lower House for deliberation, noting that the committee is scheduled to examine draft amendments on developing economic projects and the Jordan Investment Board.
