AMMAN (JT) - His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday emphasised the urgency to implement resolutions made at the Arab Economic and Social Development summit held in Kuwait earlier this year, especially those related to rebuilding the Gaza Strip and enhancing economic integration in the Arab world.
King Abdullah made his remarks at a meeting with visiting Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah, who presented the Monarch a letter from Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah on efforts to realise Arab solidarity and current Arab and regional issues. The letter included mechanisms to implement a $2 billion Arab development initiative Sheikh Sabah launched during the January summit to secure resources to finance and support small- and medium-size enterprises in the Arab world.
At the meeting, King Abdullah and the visiting Kuwaiti official reviewed regional developments and efforts to bring about peace and stability in the Middle East through finding a solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict that is based on the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Sheikh Mohammad is on a tour to several Arab states to follow up on the resolutions of the Kuwait summit.
At the summit, leaders agreed to promote Arab development and integration, including a plan to speed up the electricity linkage project in the region, link Arab countries with a railway and establishment of the Arab customs union which is expected to be fully operational by 2015, with a target to ultimately establish the common Arab market.
