Jordan condemns storming of Al Aqsa Mosque

AMMAN — Jordan condemned on Sunday the Israeli raid on Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem by a number of settlers and the Israeli agriculture minister who attacked the mosque's guards and worshippers.

Violating the mosque and attacking the worshippers and guards is a violation to the feelings of all Arabs and Muslims, Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications Mohammad Momani, who is also government spokesperson, said, adding that such behaviours will breed more hatred.

He demanded that the Israeli government take responsibility and refrain from carrying out such attacks, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

On Sunday morning, Israeli settlers led by their agriculture minister, Uri Ariel raided the mosque where confrontations took place, leading to tens of injuries among the guards and worshippers as well as suffocation from tear gas, according to Petra.

Also on Sunday, Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Minister Hayel Dawood condemned the attack, describing it as a violation of the sanctity of Islamic holy sites.
