‘National Aid Fund’s east Amman branch lacks wheelchairs, cleanliness’

AMMAN — Although mostly visited by people with disabilities, a National Aid Fund’s (NAF) branch in the capital was found to have no wheelchairs available, according to the Public Sector Development Ministry.

In an unannounced visit to the NAF branch in east Amman, the ministry’s inspectors found ramps for people with disabilities but no wheelchairs to facilitate their accessibility, according to a ministry statement sent to The Jordan Times.

Inspectors also recorded a lack of cleanliness, with many cigarette butts thrown all over the entrance, the statement said.

However, the inspection team said the NAF branch has a good website and a Facebook page highlighting its activities, with answers to people inquiries, according to the statement.

The inspectors said the branch is located in a crowded commercial district that lacks parking lots.

The report on the visit was referred to Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, according to the statement.

The Public Sector Development Ministry has been carrying out unannounced visits to various government agencies for over three years to monitor performance and submit reports to the prime minister and other concerned ministers.

Earlier in February, the ministry said a team that conducted an unannounced visit to a healthcare centre in Qweismeh uncovered various irregularities, citing unprofessional staff and lack of hygiene.

The inspectors did not find the centre’s director in his office and saw children playing around with important files.

The entrance of the building also lacked accessibility.

The team’s report was sent to the premier and to the Ministry of Health.
