AMMAN — Investments by Orange Jordan in frequencies and infrastructure have reached about JD1.1 billion since the company's inception in the Kingdom¸ according to Shabib Ammari, chairman of the company.

The company's investments have been concentrated on upgrading broadband networks and introducing third and fourth generation services, he said at the recent opening of the company's new headquarters at the Boulevard.

The event was held in the presence of Minister of Information and Communications Technology and Public Sector Development Majd Shweikeh, visiting Chairman and CEO of Orange Middle East and Africa Bruno Mettling, and other officials.

The group, he said, will continue investing in the telecommunication sector in the Kingdom.

Ammari added that the company provides the treasury with revenues amounting to JD100-120 million annually in the form of taxes and other fees.

Mettling stressed the Paris-based group's "continued commitment" to Jordan.

During his recent visit, Mettling met with Prime Minister Hani Mulki and discussed difficulties faced by companies "operating under high taxation" and the need for a better regulatory and taxation framework in order to support the industry.

He added that Orange Jordan plans to establish a training centre in Tafileh Governorate, 180km southwest of Amman, to support the development of local skills in the ICT sector.

He also reviewed the group's Essentials 2020 strategy that focuses on accelerating the digital transformation of the company’s services and customer relationships, while upholding the excellence of its traditional services. Through this strategy, he said, the company is also deeply committed to supporting the wide array of new activities and job opportunities made possible by the digital transformation.

Orange Jordan CEO Jérôme Hénique said the opening of the new headquarters coincides with 10-year anniversary of the Orange brand in Jordan.

Orange Jordan is one of the 29 subsidiaries of Orange Group, which has a total customer base of 269 million and has long been a leader in ICT innovation, delivering "state-of-the-art" technologies to the world.

Orange Middle East and Africa is one of the most important growth engine for the group, as it has strongly positioned itself as the telecom partner for the digitisation of the countries where the company operates, according to a company statement.
