AMMAN — Amid the novel coronavirus crisis, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Muthana Gharaibeh on Monday called on start-ups to reconsider their work and resources to ensure the continuity of their businesses.
During a virtual session under the theme “Opportunities created by coronavirus”, attended by CEO of Jordanian start-up Whyise Reem Khouri, the minister emphasised the importance of supporting the Kingdom’s start-ups, highlighting the necessity of utilising remote work to carry out their businesses, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
“Amid the COVID-19 crisis, digitisation is not a luxury. Rather, it is an option for developing countries and solving the problems of various sectors, such as the tourism and agriculture sectors, among others,” he said, pointing out that the platforms launched during the crisis were made through the efforts of Jordanian youth.
Khouri said that the transition to digital economy requires new skills, noting that many people are at risk of losing their jobs because they lack such skills, which confirms the necessity of providing the new generation with innovative skills to be equipped with competitive advantages.
